ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Mona Laviña is a social studies education graduate student at the University of the Philippines Open University and lives in the Philippines and Canada. After graduating from Ateneo de Manila University in 2001, Mona pursued International Development studies at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. She worked as a communication volunteer for UNICEF, Save the Children Canada, and CIVICUS World Assembly for Citizen Participation.
In  2009, Mona developed the first Global Citizenship Calendar, an online educational resource for the Global Classroom Program of UNICEF Canada with lesson plans and learning activities focused on children's rights and global issues. The calendar was published on the 20th anniversary year of the United  Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
